Lori Johns Angel was only 3 years old when she was introduced to the world of drag racing, through her indulgent Dad who was also a drag racer. It’s hardly a surprise that, having learned to drive at a very young, age she went on to win drag races all around the world and to enjoy the highs and suffer the lows that this has brought. Throughout all of these times, Lori Johns Angel has had the support of family and crew, as well as God, and continues to live life for the moment rather than the past or the future.
Having decided early on in life that racing cars was what she wanted to do, Lori Johns Angel was persuaded by her Dad’s warning to take up a car mechanics course. He pointed out to his young daughter than unless you have an understanding of the car and are able to talk to the mechanics and understand what they are saying then you can’t be a successful racing car driver. Obviously, the words stuck and the meaning wasn’t lost.
Lori Johns Angel started racing while she was still at high school. Having been taught to speed shift her 1982 4 speed Corvette on the way to high school, it wasn’t long before she entered her first drag race, winning and sparking the will to progress her career in this way. Shortly after, Lori Johns Angel got her first professional drag car, a 1969 Chevrolet Nova which was called The Tequila Sunrise.
